The cornerstone of the church shows the date we were founded and the date we moved to the current building.

Our Mission
The mission The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

What is a United Methodist?
We are Christians who are excited to be part of the United Methodist Church. United Methodists are the second largest Protestant denomination in America. Methodists have played a significant role in shaping our nation since its founding days. Even in modern times, Methodist from many different perspectives are helping to lead the country, including former President George W. Bush and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, just to name two.

Methodists have been known for our emphasis on personal faith, lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued well-informed and passionate preaching, lively worship and small groups where people can connect and grow in faith.

Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Baltimore was the site of the Christmas Conference in 1784 which organized the Methodist Episcopal Church in America.

What do United Methodists Believe?
United Methodists hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. We are evangelical, but moderates rather than fundamentalists. We value intellect and modern science, while at the same time looking to the Bible as the authoritative guide for faith and practice. Methodists have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues and to do so with grace and compassion.

We place a strong emphasis on our Wesleyan Theological Heritage and seek to live out our faith in our daily lives. United Methodist have a history of work in missions both locally and internationally that continues today, we are engaged in ministry to the world. We believe the Christian faith is grounded in the love and grace of God, experienced through Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
