If you have never walked a prayer labyrinth, you may wonder what people do as they walk the path.
There is no set agenda. Every walk is different. To help you get started, the following suggested stages of a labyrinth walk are adapted from the writings of Rev. Dr. Lauren Artress:
- Remembering. You are invited to gather your thoughts as you prepare to begin your walk.
- Releasing. From entering the labyrinth to arriving at the center, let go of what distracts you. This happens through a mindful slowing and deepening of breathing, or through the silent repetition of a simple prayer or verse of scripture.
- Receiving happens at the center of the labyrinth. This is a time for prayer, for quiet, for oneness with God. You may sit, stand, or kneel in the center as long as you are led to do so.
- Resolve occurs on the walk out of the labyrinth. You symbolically take back out into the world what you’ve received.
Calvary’s prayer labyrinth is available for anyone to use on the second Friday evening and following Saturday morning of each month. Your next opportunity for this experience is Friday, October 12, between 5 to 8 pm, and Saturday, October 13, from 8 to 10 am.
Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Psalm 25:4
