Dear Calvary Family,
After 15 months of spirited and spirit-filled meetings, the Building Committee is recommending two additions to the church facility: (1) a sanctuary and (2) a multi purpose room.
The new sanctuary will be built on the lawn immediately south of the present Junior/Senior High Room. It will have an initial seating capacity of approximately 1000 people, with future expansion possible. The multi purpose room, featuring a gymnasium, will support children’s and student ministries. It will be built adjacent to the north wall of the current worship center (but not blocking the view from the atrium window).
The south lawn was chosen for the site of the new sanctuary for three primary reasons:
- Better overall use of our 40-acre site; the church facility will be more centered on campus.
- Prominent campus location makes it clear to all “this is where Calvary worships!”
- Cost savings will be realized by building “on grade” and minimizing the need for concrete, steel and earth movement (3 of the costliest components of construction).
Our architect (BLDD) and general contractor (P. J. Hoerr) estimate the project will cost between $8,000,000 and $10,000,000. This figure includes construction costs, architect and builder fees, furnishings, parking lot expansion and some remodeling of the present facility.
BLDD drawings of the proposed floor plan and site plan are available for review by clicking on the images to your left (drawings are in pdf format and require Adobe Reader).
The Building Committee’s next major task is to work with the architect on interior and exterior design elements. As that work begins, the Finance, Stewardship and Capital Campaign Committees will determine the cost feasibility of the project and develop fundraising plans.
Your questions and feedback about the proposed expansion plan are very important to us. Please feel free to contact any member of the Building Committee (click here for contact information) check the website for names/numbers), or send an email to building@cumcnormal.org. Committee members are also available to make presentations about the proposal to groups within the church.
We ask for your prayers as we continue to determine God’s will for Calvary’s future.
In His Service,
Larry Phillips, Chairperson
